A task force of the Indian Navy comprising four ships, INS Mumbai, INS Trishul, INS Gomati and INS Aditya paid a goodwill visit to Haifa Port from 30 July 2012 to August 2, 2012.  The task force was commanded by Rear Admiral AR Karve, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet of the Indian Navy, who flew his flag on INS Mumbai.  The visit was part of the Indian Navy’s Overseas Deployment programme for 2012, and was part of similar visits to other ports in the Mediterranean region.  The last port call to Israel by IN Ships was in 2009.

The Indian Navy delegation was hosted by the Israeli Navy, and personnel from both navies carried out mutual visits to foster closer interaction between the navies.  During the visit, the Fleet Commander paid respects at the Memorial in Haifa for the Indian soldiers who had lost their lives in the First World War; and the Holocaust Memorial at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.  He also called on the Mayor of Haifa, Mr. Yona Yahav.   The fleet commander hosted a reception on board INS Mumbai which was attended by senior officials of the Indian Embassy, the Government of Israel, civilian and military organizations and members of the Indian community in Israel.
